SmithFly Opens Brick and Mortar Fly Fishing Store

Innovative fly fishing gear maker SmithFly Designs is opening a retail location and workshop on Friday, April 17 at 211 East Water Street in Troy, Ohio.

The store will offer a complete line of fly fishing gear and paddle sport items, including kayaks, coolers, stand up paddle boards, fly rods, reels, soft goods and apparel. It will also offer guided local fishing trips, casting lessons, introductory fly fishing workshops and fly tying classes.

April 17 Grand Opening Celebration

A ribbon cutting ceremony conducted by Troy Mayor Mike Beamish and the Troy Area Chamber of Commerce will take place at 4:00 p.m., followed by an open house with refreshments and live entertainment that will last until 8:00 p.m.

Since launching SmithFly in 2010, owner Ethan Smith has won awards for his creative and groundbreaking approach to modular fly fishing gear, including Best New Angling Product from Gray’s Sporting Journal (2013).

“The new shop is situated right on the banks of Great Miami River, letting customers

walk right from the front door to the river to test gear,” said Smith. “I’m thrilled to have such a unique, hands-on location to spread the joy of fly fishing.”

Along with fly fishing and paddle sports items, SmithFly offers custom graphic design and brand services for small businesses. Smith’s design portfolio includes work for several Fortune 500 companies.
