New Mexico TU Chapter Awards College Scholarship

It’s important to recognize that TU does more than fix and protect rivers… it’s also focused on supporting communities.

The Truchas Chapter of Trout Unlimited has awarded its inaugural College Scholarship to Fabian Larranaga, a 2024 Senior class member at Monte Del Sol Charter School in Santa Fe, New Mexico.The Truchas Chapter College Scholarship Fund was created to recognize academic excellence in the studies of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) by college-bound public high school seniors in the greater Santa Fe area.

Fabian has maintained a 3.90 grade point average throughout his high school career. He will use his $2,600 scholarship to pursue an electrical engineering degree at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology with a focus on solar energy generation.Fabian was awarded the scholarship by Truchas Chapter Scholarship Chairman, Michael Jozwiakowski, at a school-wide student assembly. Monte Del Sol Charter School also participates in the Truchas Chapter’s Trout In The Classroom program.

Since its founding as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 1959, Trout Unlimited’s mission to conserve, protect and restore cold water fisheries and their watersheds has had a positive impact on rivers, streams and fish throughout the United States and has grown to more than 300,000 members and supporters.
