  1. accuracy, feel and warranty are number one.
too stiff no good! brand, color & celebrity hype no matter. most sight cast fish hooked within 30 to 60 feet.
    my two cents…

  2. After working in a fly shop for over 15 years, the number one thing I’ve seen has been Cost as the #1 factor. The majority of fly anglers don’t want to spend an arm and a leg on a rod, no matter how good it casts or how accurate it is.

The customers that have been fishing for a while don’t want to spend an arm and a leg either, because the same rod they’ve been fishing for 25 years, still catches fish, so there’s no need to upgrade it.

Newbies don’t want to spend an arm and a leg either, because they are just getting in to it. Quite frankly, they shouldn’t either, because someone who has never fly fished before, shouldn’t be fishing with the latest, greatest rod.
