If you haven’t tuned into this, um, hot new fly tying technique, it might be worth checking out.  Joe Nicklo has created HMG Fly Systems (that’s Hot-Melt-Glue) to create a number of innovative patterns that pushes the synthetics envelope even further.  If you’re a traditional fur and feather only tier, this might not be for you.  But you cannot argue with the interesting aesthetics, and once you master the shaping, sculpting and color mixing process, Nicklo contends that you’ll even be able to create flies faster–even 50 percent faster than you would spinning them up the old fashioned way.

HMG will be on full display at the Fly Fishing Show in Atlanta in early February.

And do plan swing by the Fly Fishing Show when it’s in your neck of the woods.  You’ll see the Angling Trade team walking the floor in Denver.  Do stop us and say hi.  The full lineup of what has become the happening in fly fishing can be found at the Fly Fishing Show website.
