Study by Headwaters Economics Finds Forest Service Continuing to Mismanage Country’s Largest National Forest

WHAT: A tele-press conference to highlight the findings of a new report by Headwaters Economics, an independent research firm, that examines five years of U.S. Forest Service budget and staffing data on the Tongass National Forest. The report reviews whether the Forest Service has fulfilled its 2010 pledge to transition out of old-growth logging, to shift to young-growth management and to invest in growth industries such as fishing and tourism to improve economic opportunities for Southeast Alaska. The report is titled, “The Tongass National Forest and the Transition Framework: A New Path Forward?”
