Costa Sunglasses partnered with the 2014 Martha’s Vineyard Striped Bass and Bluefish Derby to host the Costa Catch and Release Awards in this year’s tournament. During the event, which begins Sat., Sept. 14 and concludes on Sat., Oct. 18, Derby anglers can submit photos of any size bluefish and striped bass in the fly, all-tackle, boat and shore divisions for a chance to win a pair of Costa sunglasses, hat and t-shirt. An additional Grand Prize winner will be drawn from all of the entries to receive a Costa gift pack, containing a custom-wrapped Costa cooler, a duffle bag, backpack, t-shirts, hats, retainer cord and a pair of Costa sunglasses.

The Martha’s Vineyard Striped Bass and Bluefish Derby attracts more than 2,000 anglers from around the world, fishing for striped bass, bluefish, bonito and false albacore. The tournament’s primary mission is to raise scholarship money for surrounding area students.

“We want every Derby participant to have a chance at the Costa Catch and Release prize packs, so anglers submitting pictures of any size fish throughout the tournament will have a chance to win,” said Mike Holliday, Costa’s inshore community manager. “Our goal is to encourage as many Derby fishermen as possible – and anglers everywhere – to practice sustainable catch and release fishing.”

Many fisheries that should be vibrant and healthy are all but devoid of native fish because they have fallen victim to poor fishing practices, unregulated development, lack of watershed protection or all of the above. Costa works with partners around the world to help increase awareness and influence policy so that both the fish and fishermen of tomorrow will have healthy waters to enjoy. Costa encourages others to help in any way they can.
