Douglaston Salmon Run is a renown sportfishing destination on the Salmon River in Pulaski, NY and features 2.5 miles of private access to some of the best anadromous fishing in the Great Lakes watershed. Likeminded anglers are inspired by the camaraderie and memorable experiences cultivated through time spent outdoors and DSR’s focus on hospitality and conservation. In addition to daily and seasonal access passes, guests can reserve one of DSR’s beautifully restored homes to stay on premises.
Summary: The Assistant Manager plays a crucial role in supporting the Manager to ensure all aspects of the business including sales, staff management, guest services, and daily operations work in concert to deliver a consistently memorable fishing experience for the guest. This position requires a strong work ethic, flexible scheduling, excellent communication & interpersonal skills, and a passion for the outdoors. The Assistant Manager directly assists with supervising the Guest Services staff and assists with the River Patrol, Housekeeping, and Maintenances staffs in the Manager’s absence. The Assistant Manager helps oversee and administer corporate technology systems, marketing, and social media accounts. Assists the Manager with all other duties to ensure the company’s continued success and profitability by performing the following duties:
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Guest Services:
a. Directly assisting with the supervision of the Guest Services staff including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, and delegating responsibilities as needed
b. Maintains and improves a positive work environment to motivative staff to deliver DSR’s high standards for guest satisfaction
c. Greets and assists guests in a friendly and professional manner; provides advice on DSR products and services along with fishing techniques, conditions, and locations
d. Works directly with guests to reserve and purchase DSR products and services. Holds a lead role in taking corrective action including responding to escalated customer service inquiries to address gaps in services delivered in a professional, timely, and effective manner. Interacts with guests predominantly in person in addition to responding to guest phone calls, emails, social media responses
e. Prepares and sends mass communications to DSR guests and the public as required
2. Technology:
a. Works with DMI’s technology partners to administer, maintain, and troubleshoot all corporate technology systems, including but not limited to: DSR’s website, point of sale, various printer types, MS Office suit, Google Drive suit, telephone services, internet services, TV streaming apps and services
b. Identifies and implements new technologies to improve operations
c. Creates standard operating procedures and trains all employees on technology use and functions
3. Operations:
a. Assists with the management of all Maintenance, Housekeeping, and River Patrol departments in the Manager’s absence
b. Assists with the developing, implementing, and upholding workplace policies and procedures to DSR’s high standards
c. Maintains an organized and comprehensive filing system for business and employee information according to company, state, and federal requirements
d. Reviews, generates, and provides business reports to Manager and Ownership as required
e. Purchases supplies as needed
4. Retail:
a. Assists the manager with all aspects of operating DSR’s store including design, inventory, ordering, display, and sale of products
b. Maintains a clean and organized store
5. Marketing:
a. Assists with the promotion and sales of all DSR products and services
b. Communicates with guests and promotes the business through a general working knowledge of social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, etc.
c. Assists with public relations to include attending and presenting at industry meetings and events
d. Works with the Manager and DSR’s marketing consultants to strategize, develop, and implement advertisements and marketing campaigns
6. Availability:
a. Primarily works afternoon into late evening shifts and works early morning shifts as required
b. Works extended hours, weekends, and holidays as required
c. Remains available via phone, when not at work, for emergency contact

Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in hospitality, business, environmental science, technology, or related field, preferred
Experience with MS Office Suit (Word, Excel, Outlook), Google Drive suit, video conferencing software, required
Experience with MS SharePoint, MS OneDrive, preferred
Experience with point of sale software, online retail/reservation software, various types of printer software, preferred
Experience with internet services, cable and streaming TV services and associated apps, preferred
Experience with cellular and traditional phone systems, preferred
Previous customer service and sales experience, preferred
Previous supervisory experience, preferred
Knowledge and experience in the fishing industry, preferred
Licenses & Certifications:
Valid driver’s license required
