“Hendry County Sheriff Whidden falsely accused our organization today of provoking “violent rhetoric.” This is an absurd and improper attempt to intimidate us by a law enforcement official who is acting as a tool of Big Sugar.
As Sheriff Whidden well knows, Captains For Clean Water has only ever engaged in entirely peaceful advocacy and civic engagement to demand basic accountability from those in power.
We will continue our important and constitutionally protected effort to restore the Everglades, fix broken water management, and educate the public about the political and corporate interests that are harming our environment.
We will not stop speaking out forcefully—but always peacefully—and we remind our supporters to always do the same. We do not condone violence or threats of any kind.”

For the record, Angling Trade has been covering this industry—and this topic of Big Sugar’s impact on the Everglades—for years, and we have never—not once—perceived even a hint of violent rhetoric from the organization.

Good on you Captains. Intimidation should be called out as you did. Keep up the good work. Bully’s are cowards when called out.
