Fly Fishing Lodge Managers/Hosts:  Hospitality Manager and Head Guide/Operations Manager

We are seeking applications for those interested in a joint position that is coming open to manage a world class, long-standing, private flyfishing lodge in southern Chile, located in the Patagonia region.  This position is for a 9-10 week annual commitment, a short season working for the owner in the heart of the Austral summer.   This year (2022) will be shortened to a 5 week commitment, designed to overlap with current managers in early February to allow for training.  New management will finish the final two weeks of the season.  We are looking for applicants who are interested in a potential commitment of 3-5 years.

This position is ideal for a professionally driven Spanish-speaking couple with experience in hospitality and in guiding flyfishing anglers.    The lodge is located in a remote area of Chilean Patagonia, on an island near where the Futaleufu River enters Lago Yelcho.  Job requirements are:

Head Guide/Operations Manager

-Knowledge and passion for food
-Organizational skills to organize the weekly purchase of supplies and food
-Work with local chef to design weekly menu, adapt to guests’ dietary needs and wishes, bring creative and international influence to menu.
-Assist with new menu items, and preparation of desserts and appetizers
-Serve as a liaison between guests and staff
-Oversee and be responsible for quality of operations
-Host guests at cocktail hour and welcome guests upon arrival, give orientation.

Guests to the lodge are limited to the owner, owner’s family and their invited guests.  Guests are generally international in origin, most speak both English and Spanish, but there are some who are exclusively Spanish speakers.

The fishery in this area is robust, with a number of river sections available to float on day trips, including daily forays to the Futaleufu, Palena, Yelcho, and Rosselot Rivers.  Home water is an extensive area, including the southeast portion of Lago Yelcho, several lagunas, and the lower 7 miles of the Futaleufu River, including the boca, where the Futaleufu enters the lake.

Communication is limited to what is available via a wifi connection, generally a medium speed and reliable connection.  The lodge is powered by solar panels and battery bank, with a diesel generator backup.  Cell phone service is not available on site, but is available in the nearby village of Santa Lucia, some 20 kms away from the mainland parking area.

Access to the lodge is gained by a 5km (2 mile) boat ride from the parking area to the island’s boat dock.  All materials, food and supplies movement must be organized and transferred in this manner.

This is a wonderful opportunity to be involved with a reputable operation and program that has been established over 40 years of operating to serve the needs of international flyfishing guests.  Many of the lodge’s guests are repeat anglers who have visited the island for many years, providing management with a great opportunity to make international connections while working in an incredible setting.

Room and board is provided on site for the duration of the season.  Current management has been here for 16 years, 8 of those years were with their young children from age 1 to 10.  Ownership and current management can assist in finding potential childcare solutions if needed.  Pay is competitive and travel expenses are covered as part of the package.
