3

Immensely talented and well-respected throughout the fly-fishing community, Jon Luke, creative director of Northwest Fly Fishing and its affiliated family of magazines, was killed in an accident while on assignment.  Here is the statement from Northwest Fly Fishing:

It is with profound sadness that we must announce the death of our creative director, Jon Luke, who passed away suddenly this weekend from complications resulting from injuries sustained in a boating accident while he was on assignment for the magazines last week. Our staff is in a state of disbelief over this unimaginably bad news, and we extend our most sincere condolences to Jon’s family and many friends. Jon was the heart and soul of our magazines, which he helped launch in 1999. We will honor him and his amazing work at a future date as we continue the legacy of Jon’s design work and photography, but for now we felt it important that Jon’s many friends and colleagues hear this news directly from us.

With our deepest regrets,

  1. i AM SHOCKED AND SADDENED BY THIS NEWS. JON WAS SO PASSIONATE ABOUT FLY FISHING AND PHOTOGRAPHY. WHAT A VACUUM THIS WILL LEAVE IN THE FLY COMMUNITY. MY SYMPATHIES TO HIS BELOVED FAMILY. I WILL ALWAYS HAVE FOND MEMORIES OF HIS VISITS TO OUR RESORT.

  2. This is terrible news. I’ve worked in direct competition with Jon for many years and yet he and I maintained a wonderful professional relationship. What a great man to talk with. What a great man to share ideas with. Just a loss for everyone in fly fishing and beyond, but especially his family. I’ll miss him.
