Founded just four years ago, College Outside, the collegiate sales channel for the outdoor
industry, now represents 250 university outdoor education programs and outing clubs. The
member’s only platform provides groups access to more than 40 brands at wholesale prices.
“Purchasing gear is one of the most significant challenges facing university outdoor programs,”
says College Outside Founder and CEO Sarah Lockwood. “Buying gear for large groups can be
time consuming and cumbersome. Our streamlined ecommerce platform is the solution,
because it allows groups to spend more time and energy doing what really matters: growing
their on-campus presence and getting more students outside.”
College Outside’s member outdoor programs span 45 states and engage more than 150,000
student participants of nearly equal gender representation.
“These university programs are a significant channel for getting new people hooked on the
outdoors,” says Lockwood. “By supporting these groups and helping them stretch their budgets,
we are increasing the next generation’s participation in the outdoors.”
Lockwood’s goal is to partner with every U.S. university outdoor program in the coming years,
and provide resources to help new programs succeed.
