Proposed Bonefish/Tarpon Regulation Changes

1

From Bonefish & Tarpon Trust:

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is considering new regulations for tarpon and bonefish that will improve bonefish and tarpon conservation. We like the new draft rules, and would like your feedback. If you also like the new draft rules, please contact the FWC Commissioners to express your support for the proposed new regulations.

The draft regulations would make bonefish and tarpon catch and release only. The Commission will discuss these draft regulations at their meeting on April 17-18, in Tallahassee. Review the proposed regulation changes and don’t forget to contact the commissioners, they are meeting next week.

  1. I agree with the rules draft. Bonefish and tarpon must be protected. Already there are
effects of habitat loss for these fish. We need to do everything we can to make a difference.
I also think permit should be in the same mix. The outdoor writers don’t call them the
big three on the flats, for no reason.
The only reason to kill one of these species would be to mount it on your wall. Nowadays,
that can be done with a photo and measurements. If a world record is sought, the angler needs to know where the closest official accurate cradle weigher is located, and release the fish, unharmed.
