The Articulating Re-attachable Cable retainer is the only retainer of its kind allowing you to both, attach different size ends, which can be snapped off and on according to need, to properly fit virtually all frame sizes, and, because no two eyewear frames are the same, the ARC allows for 70 degrees of adjustment in the angle of the retainer while it is attached to your glasses, keeping the retainer off your neck or collar as a result.

The ultra-lightweight ARC, which is proudly made in the USA, uses precision machine fittings and coated steel cable in creating an eyewear retainer that does what no other eyewear retainer can do.

Croakies ARC Retainers will be available at better outdoor stores everywhere.

About Croakies
In 1976 a local ski patrolman from Jackson Hole, Wyoming, came up with an idea for an eyewear retainer that would grip his shades through all kinds of alpine adventures. Using an old wetsuit, some sharp scissors, and good old American ingenuity, he made the first pair of Croakies. Today our headquarters are still in Jackson Hole, Wyoming with our production in Bozeman, Montana. Our inspiration remains the same – to create eyewear retainers and accessories that provide comfort, style, durability, and functionality to active people of all ages. For additional information regarding Croakies, please contact info@croakies.com Or visit the Croakies website at www.croakies.com.

Fish & Fly has strengthened its sales and marketing capability with the appointment of Phil Broughton as Head of Sales and Marketing with immediate effect.

Phil is joining Fish & Fly following important roles within leading Angling Publisher EMAP and more recently his role in developing Angling International into a leading angling trade magazine.

Richard Hewitt, Chairman of Fish and Fly Ltd said, “Fish & Fly has become more and more part of the very fabric of angling and the time is now right to appoint a senior industry professional to drive the next stage of our growth. Phil Broughton has a strong record leading sales teams and of commercial management in the angling industry and I am delighted he has decided to join us.

He added -”The impact of modern technology and the Internet in particular is having a huge impact on how the angling trade and their customers operate and make decisions. We intend to play a pivotal part in helping the industry adapt to the changes in marketing techniques needed to maintain and increase sales in this changing marketplace.”

“I’m thrilled to be joining the Fish & Fly team” said Phil Broughton. “Online communities of dedicated anglers present companies in the angling trade with their biggest and most exciting opportunity to grow business. The quality of the Fish & Fly portfolio of websites and the size of the communities of anglers they command is outstanding. The new developments Fish & Fly has planned to deliver high quality content to consumers and for business to engage with potential customers made this an opportunity far too exciting for me to miss.”

You can reach Phil at phil@fishandfly.com .

ALEXANDRIA, VA (July 14, 2010) – The Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation (RBFF) today revealed new boating and fishing research at the International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades (ICAST) in Las Vegas, Nev. The 2010 Special Report on Fishing and Boating, conducted by RBFF and The Outdoor Foundation, provides detailed information on participation by gender, age, ethnicity, income, education and geographic region. The report revealed that of the 48 million anglers in the United States, 41 million are participating in freshwater fishing, an increase of two percent from last year. Other key findings include: (1) Fishing is recognized as the top “gateway” activity, spurring involvement in other outdoor interests; (2) Nearly 10 million outdoor enthusiasts are considering boat ownership; (3) ‘Next-gen’ anglers, those under 18 years of age, make up more than 23 percent of all fishing participants.

“Although overall participation is down slightly from 2008, we’re delighted to see that freshwater fishing, which is by far the most popular type of fishing in the U.S., has been able to reverse a two-year downward trend into a one-year positive increase in participation,” said RBFF President and CEO Frank Peterson. “This Special Report is full of valuable information to help stakeholders shape their future marketing and education programs.”

ADDITIONAL KEY FINDINGS

Boating

7.3 percent of all Americans over age 16 (approximately 20.5 million) own a boat.

Bass boats are the most popular boat type at 18.6 percent, followed by deck/pontoon at 14.5 percent.

The majority of owners (78.5 percent) own only one boat. Nearly 50 percent of boaters purchased their boat new, and of those, 87.2 percent purchased from dealerships. Those buying used boats sourced them primarily from friends and newspaper ads.

In 2009, more than 50 million participants (17.9 percent of Americans) age 16 and older went boating. This resulted in a total of 705 million boating days in 2009, with 21 average annual days spent on the water.

After cruising, fishing from a boat is the second most popular boating activity.

Fishing

In 2009, fishing participants made 996 million outings (down slightly from one billion in 2008).

More than 45 percent of fishing participants say the economy impacts how often they participate in outdoor activities. More than 85 percent of those fishing participants plan to spend more time participating in outdoor activities in 2010.

Freshwater fishing is most popular among young people, with more than 22.5 percent participation under the age of 18 (down slightly from 24.6 percent in 2008).

The largest age bracket of saltwater fishing participants is over the age of 45, making up 48.1 percent of all participants.

Fly fishing has significant growth opportunities across a number of demographics, particularly females (25.2 percent of participants), minority groups (21.5 percent of participants), and youth (16.1 percent of participants).

Hispanic Participation

13.6 percent of Hispanics over the age of six fish – more than 70 percent are male.

In 2009, Hispanic fishing participants made more than 62 million annual outings (up from 45.8 million in 2008).

Hispanic youth ages six to 12 have the highest participation rate among all age groups (17.4 percent).

Youth Participation

There are 11.2 million fishing participants ages six to 17, unchanged from 2008.

Youth participation in fishing drops from 25.4 percent among those ages six to 12 to 19 percent among those ages 13 to 17. Time, other sports/activities, schoolwork, TV and video games are cited as barriers.

Female participation in fishing falls significantly more than males through adolescence, down 44 percent as opposed to 12.9 percent.

RBFF worked with The Outdoor Foundation to launch a major youth outdoors movement last month in New York City’s Central Park, where 500 youth delegates convened to discuss ways to motivate more kids to spend time outside. Among the ideas and results: Make outdoor classes a requirement in schools; Provide local opportunities for outdoor jobs and careers; Promote safer parks with free events and youth programs; Partner with universities to provide internship credits for students who help educate, provide recreation experiences and mentor the youth on outdoor issues; Create a social norm that moves away from electronic companionship and moves toward outdoor experiences.

“The future of any sport lies in engaging its youngest members, so reaching individuals in their early years is critical,” said The Outdoor Foundation Executive Director Christine Fanning. “The Special Report includes some important insights to motivating not only youth, but also adult participation in fishing and boating.”

The methodology and full study is available online at RBFF.org.

About RBFF

RBFF is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to increase participation in recreational angling and boating, thereby protecting and restoring the nation’s aquatic natural resources. RBFF helps people discover, share and protect the legacy of boating and fishing through national outreach programs including the Take Me Fishing™ campaign and Anglers’ Legacy™.

The Fly Fishing Show – America’s annual traveling homage to fish, fly rods, and a passion for the game – returns to successful locations for 2011, unveils a new show and moves to a different venue in the Carolinas.

Denver begins the 2011 season when the Fly Fishing Show makes its 11th visit to Colorado at Denver’s Merchandise Mart, January 7, 8 and 9. The traditional Denver opening will be followed by –

• Marlborough, Mass., Royal Plaza Trade Center; January 14, 15 and 16.

• Somerset, NJ, the largest 100% fly fishing show in the world with over 200 exhibitors, nearly 100 demonstration fly tiers, and more than 100 seminars in three days, January 21, 22, and 23.
• In North Carolina, the show has relocated from Charlotte to the Raleigh Fairgrounds, January 29 and 30.

“The new location has a huge number of fly-fishers, free parking, a modern facility and reasonable lodging, which all makes this more exciting,” said Chuck Furimsky, show owner. The college atmosphere of the Durham/Raleigh area and the highly rated Raleigh airport gives this destination great opportunity for the show to attract a huge crowd.

The show then returns to Pasadena, at the Pasadena Convention Center February 19 and 20; and in Pleasanton at the Alameda County Fairgrounds February 25, 26 and 27, covering the California fly-fishing hubs in the highly populated northern and southern parts of the state. The Pleasanton event is now the only show in the San Francisco Bay Area.

A final show, new for 2011, is the Pennsylvania Fly Fishing Show at the Valley Forge Convention Center, near Philadelphia, March 5 and 6. “This new show has generated enormous excitement for the huge numbers of fly-fishers in the eastern Pennsylvania-western New Jersey area,” said Furimsky.
In addition to a balance of exhibitors including fly-fishing dealers, lodges, artists and rod makers, a number of fly-fishing’s largest manufacturers will return with impressive exhibits of new-for-2011 products. “The recent economic downturn caused a few manufacturers to go on hiatus exhibiting at shows, but they’re back . . . bigger and better than ever,” stated Furimsky.

Expanding and continuing in 2011 is a successful Fly Fishing Show teaching partnership with the Federation of Fly Fishers. Their volunteer staff will again teach casting, fly tying, and fly-fishing techniques, free. The success of this special show area has brought numerous beginners to the sport and energized those who have been moderate fly-fishers.

For all show information, exhibitor applications and contracts, seminar titles, celebrity speakers and tiers, see their website at www.flyfishingshow.com or call 814-443-3638.

Visitors to swaesports.com (SWAE being an acronym for Snow, Water, Air, and Earth) can research their travel options based on location, sport/adventure, difficulty rating, pricing, and other users’ reviews to find and book some of the wildest adventures on earth.

By developing a central collection of the best adventure travel experiences from around the world, SWAE has empowered its users with the same, if not better, knowledge as travel agents. Even taking it a step further, SWAE works hard to include every type of adventure, from the independent rafting guide in Patagonia, to the multi‐national tour operator. It’s all there.

Daniel Epstein, the Founder and CEO of SWAE Sports puts it best, “The reason we’re so excited about SWAE is obvious; we are our own customers. Like everyone else, we want a user‐friendly website that displays the world’s most epic trips, across all locations and price points.

SWAEsports.com doesn’t just serve the end user. The adventure providers who use SWAE control all their content and can even use SWAE’s systems to give their own websites online booking capabilities. In an industry where few tour operators and guides have online reservation capabilities, SWAE’s approach represents a major shift. “One of our central goals from the start has been to make it easy for guides and tour operators to get the word out about their services and to manage their trips online,” explains Will Butler, SWAE’s Communication Strategist.

But it doesn’t stop there. Last month SWAE unveiled a revolutionary feature called SWAE Global that allows other websites such as magazine publications, tourism boards, and local gear shops, to earn commissions selling the trips on SWAE on their own sites. “Whether you are a local fly fishing shop in Crested Butte, CO who wants to help promote your town’s local guides, or an industry‐leading travel magazine who wants to offer adventures that coincide with your articles, you can implement SWAE Global for free to drive more traffic to your website, further your purpose as an organization, and make some serious moola through the entire process,” says Butler.

Beyond making adventure sports more accessible, SWAE also sees it as their purpose to enable greater availability of eco‐tourism in the developing world. 10% of their company’s profits are dedicated to providing local guides with the necessary start up capital, equipment, and expertise they’ll need to create their own eco‐tourism business. “In doing this,” says Epstein, “SWAE Sports has the real ability to promote conservation through adventure travel.”

BOZEMAN, Mont. (For immediate release) – Simms Fishing Products is voluntarily recalling certain models of Simms 2010 Wading Staffs. The affected wading staffs have a detent button that may not engage or can become dislodged making the staff inoperable.

These staffs, offered in two sizes (52″ & 56″), are sterling silver in color and are identified by Simms item numbers AWS101152 or AWS101156 (UPC numbers 94264-10102 or 94264-10103). Affected Wading Staffs are visibly identifiable by a silver cable connector (see photo).

The staffs were sold through authorized Simms dealers from March 1, 2010 through June 17, 2010. About 2,000 affected products were sent to retailers. Simms estimates about 1,000 have been purchased by consumers.

The issue was identified through company testing and customer use of the wading staff. No injuries have been reported in conjunction with the defective wading staffs.

Wading Staffs meeting the above criteria should be returned for replacement or refund by contacting Simms directly at 877-789-6555, by contacting an Authorized Simms Retail or by email at recall@simmsfishing.com.
